About Me

Margaret Jacobson MBACP
BA Hons, RSA/UCLES Cert TEFLA
Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

Counselling and Psychotherapy

I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling based in an integrative model of work including psychosynthesis. I am a registered member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). I supplemented my core training with an additional year in psychodynamic principles and practice and more intensive work in psychosynthesis. Since qualifying in 2000, I have focussed very particularly on creative therapies and psychosynthesis. As a member of BACP, I am continuing to work with psychosynthesis for personal and spiritual development both in my client work, in supervision and in my own continuing professional development.

Psychosynthesis

Psychosynthesis has been described as "psychology with a soul". Piero Ferrucci refers to a Vision of Wholeness in his book What We May Be. Psychosynthesis is not only a therapeutic model of work, but also a self-development tool, which supports our individual journey of personal and spiritual development. An holistic approach, psychosynthesis works with the body, mind, feelings and spirit. Identifying and working with the many different parts of ourselves, psychosynthesis enables a process of synthesis between those roles in order to achieve a balanced heart centre and a wholeness of being. Whilst using a variety of principles and techniques, psychosynthesis works within significant and distinctive themes:

  • The Fundamentals of Love and Will
  • A Synthesis of the differing parts of ourselves (subpersonalities)
  • Our connection to the superconscious and universal energy in the world.

Using all our senses, our imagination, body and mind, creative therapy works with our unconscious at a deep level to support our inner exploration and journey of self development.

I work with individual clients on both a short and long-term basis. If you are interested in indivudual therapy, please contact me

    Training and Experience

Before training as a therapist, I gained a BA Hons in German & English at Newcastle University and subsequently an EFL Teaching certificate in Oxford. This training was borne out of a great love of words which really began with the usual foreign languages at school, along with endless books from the local library, and developed into a more in-depth study through linguistics at university. Gradually, I moved into areas of management, firstly as a Practice Manager in a GP surgery, than as Director of a small mental health charity and most recently as Manager of a counselling service. Currently I have a role in Training and Development for a national therapy training organisation, and am also a Tutor of on-line courses for personal and spiritual development.

Over the past 15 years, I have worked with small groups and individuals in training, support, supervision and management, and I bring all these skills into my current training and therapeutic work with both groups and individual clients.

    Current Practice

My work now combines my background experience and training in linguistics and words with my therapeutic work, particularly in areas of meditation, creative visualisation and dream work. This has been quite a life journey for me emotionally, physically and spiritually, and I work with these aspects in therapy in a very inclusive way.

Alongside my private practice, I now run Sweetdragonsfly offering a series of workshops using tarot for meditation, and a programme of retreats using principles of psychosynthesis, dream work, transition and ritual, meditation and visualisation.
